230 GSM 75% Nylon 25% Spandex 4 Way Stretch Knitted Yogawear Fabric
This Nylon Spandex Knitted Fabric is specifically engineered for yoga wear and other low-to-mid impact activities. At 230GSM, it occupies a sweet spot – lighter than a heavy compression fabric yet providing excellent opacity and draping that flatters the body without feeling restrictive. The nylon base delivers a naturally soft and smooth surface with a subtle sheen, while the spandex (elastane) content provides true 4-way stretch and high elastic recovery.
The combination of nylon and spandex offers superior moisture management compared to polyester? Nylon is inherently quick-drying and wicks moisture away efficiently, though for heavy sweat applications a specialized wicking finish can be added. More importantly, this fabric resists pilling, maintains color vibrancy, and withstands repeated stretch cycles without losing its shape – critical for yoga pants, leggings, bralettes, and dancewear.
With a typical finished width of 58/60 inches (or as confirmed per batch), the fabric allows efficient cutting for tight-fitting garments. It is Oeko-Tex certified and free from harmful substances, ensuring safe skin contact during extended wear.

Q&A – Technical & Application-Focused
Q1: Why choose nylon over polyester for yoga wear?
A: Nylon offers a distinctly softer and more luxurious hand feel compared to polyester. It has a natural drape and a slight luster that mimics silk, which many yogis prefer for comfort and aesthetics. Nylon also has excellent moisture wicking (comparable to polyester) and dries quickly. However, nylon is slightly more moisture-absorbent than polyester? Actually, nylon absorbs a small amount of moisture (3.5-5% regain) which helps with static cling, while polyester absorbs almost none. For hot yoga, some prefer polyester for its hydrophobic nature; for regular yoga, nylon/spandex provides superior comfort and shape retention. Both are good, but for “soft and high elasticity” as in your title, nylon is the premium choice.
Q2: Is 230GSM thick enough to be squat-proof?
A: Yes, when properly constructed. 230GSM in a dense nylon/spandex knit is typically fully opaque, even when stretched over the hips and thighs. The key factors are fiber density and knit structure. A double-knit or interlock construction at 230GSM will be squat-proof (no sheerness). A single jersey at the same weight might be borderline, so always request a stretch-opacity test. For absolute confidence, 250-280GSM is safer, but 230GSM is widely used by major yoga brands for lightweight yet opaque leggings. We recommend ordering a swatch and performing the “bend-over test” under bright light.
Q3: How does 4-way stretch differ from 2-way stretch?
A: 2-way stretch fabric stretches only in the width direction (weft) or occasionally the length (warp), but not both. 4-way stretch stretches in all directions – warp, weft, and bias. For yoga, 4-way stretch is essential because poses like Trikonasana (triangle) and lunges require diagonal and multi-axial movement. A 2-way stretch legging would feel restrictive when you twist or rotate. Our fabric provides true 4-way stretch with excellent recovery, meaning it snaps back after each movement rather than staying stretched out.
Q4: Will this fabric pill between the thighs?
A: Pilling resistance depends on fiber quality, twist level, and knit density. Nylon/spandex fabrics inherently resist pilling better than polyester blends of similar weight because nylon fibers are tougher and less prone to breaking and forming fuzz balls. Our fabric is engineered with high-twist filament yarns and a tight knit construction, achieving a Martindale pilling rating of 3.5 to 4 (scale 1-5, 5 being best). For reference, most commercial yoga leggings rate 3-4. To extend life, wash inside out in a mesh bag and avoid abrasive surfaces like rough gym benches.
Q5: Is this fabric suitable for high-waisted leggings? Will it roll down?
A: Yes, it is excellent for high-waisted designs. The combination of 4-way stretch and high elasticity allows the waistband to conform to the body without needing excessive elastic trim. However, the waistband’s roll-down resistance also depends on the cut and finished construction (e.g., a wide, contoured waistband with internal elastic or a yoga waistband with a hidden pocket). The fabric itself does not cause rolling; its soft yet supportive hold actually helps keep the garment in place. We recommend using this fabric with a high-stretch elastic binding at the top edge or a folded-over jersey waistband for best results.
Q6: What certifications does this fabric carry?
A: Standard production complies with Oeko-Tex Standard 100, Class I or II (depending on end use). We can also provide REACH, CPSIA, and California Prop 65 compliance upon request. The nylon and spandex are free from heavy metals, AZO dyes, and phthalates. If you require additional certifications (Global Recycled Standard, bluesign, or organic content), please inquire about special order options.
